Description

A masterclass in geometric woodworking. This hand-turned bowl features a continuous “winding staircase” or “ribbon” pattern that spirals around the vessel, drawing the viewer?s eye into the bowl.

The Wood Palette: The craftsman used a trio of woods to create depth and shadow for the illusion:

Walnut: Provides the deep, dark tones for the base and the segmented rim.

Mahogany: Adds a warm, reddish-brown hue that acts as the “shadow” in the staircase pattern.

Maple: The bright, creamy background that creates the negative space, allowing the darker woods to stand out boldly.

The Details: Notice the rim: unlike a solid piece of wood, the rim itself is segmented with thin, bright spacers. This extra step frames the optical illusion perfectly, giving the piece a finished, high-end look. At 8 inches wide, it is an ideal size for a centerpiece or a functional candy/nut bowl.
