Description

This piece combines geometric precision with the legendary toughness of American hardwoods. Handcrafted in Corydon, Iowa, this bowl features a “winding staircase” pattern that draws the eye down into the vessel, creating a sense of movement and depth.

The Woods:

Hickory: The primary wood used for the body and rim. Known as one of the hardest domestic woods (often used for tool handles), Hickory offers a distinct, open grain and a creamy blonde hue. Working with Hickory requires patience and sharp tools, making this a true craftsman’s piece.

Walnut & Cherry: These contrasting woods create the “shadows” and “steps” of the illusion. The dark chocolate Walnut and warm reddish Cherry stand out boldly against the bright Hickory background.

The Illusion: The meticulous alignment of the segments creates a continuous ribbon or staircase effect. At approximately 8 inches wide and 6 inches deep, the pattern is mesmerizing from the outside and equally impressive as it curves over the rim into the interior.
