Description

This isn’t just a bowl; it is a feat of geometric woodworking. Hand-turned by a master craftsman in Corydon, Iowa, this piece utilizes the “Tumbling Block” technique to create a stunning 3D optical illusion on a smooth, round surface.

The Design: The central band features a complex segmented pattern where diamonds of light, medium, and dark woods are fitted together to create the appearance of stacked 3D cubes. The thin Maple strips act as “grout lines,” making the geometric shapes pop against the dark Walnut top and bottom rings.

The Woods: Four distinct hardwood species were selected to create the necessary shading for the illusion:

Walnut: Provides the deep, dark chocolate tones and the solid rim/base.

Maple: Used for the bright, contrasting lines.

Mahogany & Oak: Provide the warm, medium tones that give the “cubes” their depth and shadow.

Functional Art: At approximately 8 inches wide and 6 inches deep, this bowl is deep enough to be useful but beautiful enough to sit empty on a shelf as a piece of fine art.
